Healing garden needs community help
The Cerbat Garden Club is getting ready for the first phase of its largest project to date.

The club is partnering with local contractors, laborers and anyone with a green thumb for a Meditation-Healing Garden on the grounds of Hualapai Mountain Medical Center.

Vets band together for Patriot Days
The month will see one of the county's biggest-ever outpourings of patriotism when the American Veterans Traveling Tribute, a three-quarter mobile replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, stops in Lake Havasu for 10 days beginning Sept. 15, in what's being hailed as the 1st Annual Patriot Days event.

Cobb wins primary election
The winner in the race for Kingman Constable is Mike Cobb.

The Mohave County Board of Supervisors approved the canvass of the vote from the Aug. 24 primary election Thursday morning, and Cobb beat out John Slaughter for the Republican nomination for the Kingman Constable seat by 44 votes.

Circle K robber given 5 years in prison
A 20-year-old Kingman man who used a BB gun to rob a convenience store in April has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Jeffrey S. Malcolm pleaded guilty to armed robbery earlier this summer. He was one of two people involved in the April 2 robbery of the Circle K on Kingman Avenue. Malcolm reportedly entered the store just after midnight and pointed the gun at the clerk while it was concealed in the front pocket of a hooded sweatshirt.

New county jail clears hurdle on way to opening
The new Mohave County Adult Detention Facility is nearing completion and received a Certificate of Occupancy from the city of Kingman, according to county officials.

The certificate was received on Aug. 19. The facility will be completed in November, a year behind the original completion date.

Old mine makes a comeback
There's still gold in the hills around Oatman. Workers at the Gold Road Mine poured their first bar of the precious metal last week.

"It was pretty exciting stuff," said Addwest Mine Manager Charlie Bauer.

Everyone wanted to watch as the gold ore was heated, melted and then poured into a mold, he said. The result is a hardened bar of ore about the size and thickness of an average brick.

A Ride for Justin
The Kingman community paid tribute to one its hometown heroes Saturday with a Patriot Guard Ride and ceremony honoring fallen soldier Justin McNeley.

The Patriot Guard Riders escorted the family Saturday morning from VFW Post 10386 to the Veteran's Memorial next to Locomotive Park downtown. Around 150 motorcycles were part of the procession, as well as other vehicles.
